The Who, What, and When of Wedding Stationary – Part 1
Save The Date! Our Wedding is Coming!
Congratulations on your engagement! You’ve shared the news with family, friends, and your entire social network, and the planning has started! One of the early tasks on any wedding to-do list is figuring out your wedding stationary, and a timeline for sending it all out.
Your save-the-date cards are generally the first piece of wedding stationary to go out. While they are not mandatory, they are a great way of giving your family and friends a little advance notification, and a sneak peek into your wedding’s style. Keeping an eye on your timeline is extremely important, especially if you would like photographic save-the-date cards made, so make sure to account for the time needed to schedule your engagement photo session, design your cards, order and print, and address and mail them out.
When do I have to send save-the-dates out?
You should aim to send save-the-date cards out approximately six to eight months before your wedding date. If you are having a destination wedding, it is great to allow even more time (nine to twelve months). The goal here is to allow your guests ample time to make travel arrangements, find child care, and take care of what they need to so they can have every opportunity to be there for your wedding.
Who should I send save-the-dates to?
Make sure you send a save-the-date to everyone who you absolutely plan on inviting. If you’re not sure if they’re getting an invitation, do not send a save-the-date! Once a person receives a save-the-date, not inviting them would be kind of like uninviting them to your wedding, and that is definitely a firm “no” from wedding etiquette experts.
What information needs to be included on my save-the-date?
Make sure you have the name of each spouse-to-be, the date of the wedding, the location, the wedding website information, and a note indicating that the invitation will follow. If you are hosting a destination wedding, you should also include any hotel or accommodation arrangements.
What needs to be done before mailing my save-the-dates out?
Aim to have your wedding website up and running, and your wedding registry started.
