The Who, What, and When of Wedding Stationary - Part 2
It's Getting Closer! The Formal Invitations
The wedding is getting closer and your planning should be moving into the finalizing of details phase. Your wedding invitations are a key part of the wedding timeline because no invitations mean no guests, which means no fun! Keep reading for more information about wedding invitation timelines and etiquette…
When do I send out my wedding invitations?
Wedding invitations should be sent out around six to eight weeks before the wedding. In the case of a destination wedding, allow extra time and send them out at least 12 weeks before the date. This timeframe allows people the chance to make arrange travel, child care, and their schedules.
What needs to be included on the wedding invitation?
Be sure to include the names of the guests of honor, the date, the time, the location, and the reception information (i.e. “reception to follow” or “dinner and dancing to follow”). You can also elect to include the dress code information and the wedding website information.
How do I figure out the deadline to RSVP?
Your RSVP date should be approximately 3 weeks before your wedding date. This allows you enough time to finalize with your venue or caterer, who will need accurate head counts. If you have guests who have not replied in a timely manner, it is absolutely ok to reach out to ask for their RSVP.
What do I do if I want an adults only wedding?
Addressing your invitations clearly and correctly will convey this with ease. Address it to precisely who you would like to invite, and it is generally clear that the invitation is only extended to those noted. If you have guests who send their reply and include their children, be sure to give them a call and let them know that the wedding is an adults only event and that you hope they will still be able to be a part of your special day.
What about dress code?
Dress code is usually indicated on the lower right hand corner of the invitation. Check out this wedding dress code cheat sheet from theknot.com for additional information about some of your wedding attire options.
